Russian helmet in the configuration known among collectors as SSh-40\60.
It is, in fact, an improvement on the SSH-40 helmet, a model used by the Red Army during World War II. It remained essentially the same helmet as it was during World War II; the shape of the shell, rivets, etc. remained unchanged. The improvement occurred on the inside: the fragile three-petal internal padding was replaced with a more robust one.
Since the two helmets are almost identical, analyzing period photos it is not possible to state with certainty when this helmet was first issued, but it is certain that production was much more modest than that of its predecessor.
