Fun Fact: The Volkspolizei, or People's Police, was the national police force of the German Democratic Republic.

The Corps was founded immediately after the end of the Second World War and disbanded with the reunification of the two Germanies. Its members received military training. The People's Police was a sort of second army, but it primarily performed civilian police duties.

After the end of World War II, the newly formed East German National People's Army, often abbreviated to NVA, adopted uniforms with a cut and style very similar to those worn by the Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe troops during World War II.

Already during the Second World War, the typical colour of the shoulder strap piping identified the Polizei.
