Interesting Fact: The 3rd Alpine Regiment was founded in 1882 and participated in all the campaigns of the newly formed Kingdom of Italy: the Abyssinian War of 1895-96, relief operations following the Beth avalanche in 1904, and the Italo-Turkish War in Libya in 1911-1912. It distinguished itself in the First World War in the conquest of Monte Nero, defended the border with France in 1940, and participated in the Italian Campaign in Greece and the subsequent garrison of the Balkans until September 8, 1943, when it surrendered in Montenegro after clashing with German units. Reconstituted in 1944, it was incorporated into the 1st Brigade of the Italian Liberation Corps of the Kingdom of the South.

The regiment was disbanded on 25 September 1944 and reconstituted on 23 October 1993.
